Tips for Children’s Birthday Parties

Are you planning a birthday party for a toddler or grade school age child? This is an incredibly exciting time for children. Celebrating birthdays with friends and family members is always an exciting time. Follow these recommendations from the party planning professionals to ensure the party for your special child is a magical event.

The first rule of thumb is to limit the number of friends to the age of the child. A four year old should have no more than four friends on the guest list and a ten year old should limit the number of guests to ten. Any larger of a crowd and this can truly be overwhelming for the child (and host!).  Set a date, select a venue and send out invitations to the children and family members on the guest list.  When selecting a theme for the party, enlist the input of the birthday child. It’s very popular to have storybook character themes for younger children. Take advantage of the awesome deals offered by Groupon coupons and purchase the paper goods and party favors from the Disney Store. The birthday child and guests will be delighted. Order a cake with the corresponding theme.  When selecting games and activities, the best rule of thumb is to keep it simple. Avoid the temptation to order ponies, clowns and a water slide. Ask yourself if these are of interest to the child or do they reflect what you would like to have had at your own birthday party as a child. Keep it simple. Arts & crafts are very age appropriate as are simple scavenger hunts and yard games. Be creative and plan many more games than you think are necessary. When the younger kids are excited, they tend to fly throw activities at quite a fast clip.  If the party is planned for two or two and a half hours, that’s actually a lot of time to fill. A backyard pool or slip and slide can provide hours of fun. Just make sure the guests bring suits and towel!  Have a grand time at what’s sure to be a magical event!
